BIR Relief 2.2 default username and password

posted Dec 12, 2017, 6:50 PM by Jose Marie Maquinay   [ updated Jan 2, 2018, 9:40 PM ]

SInce there are far too many times people forgot username and passwords for certain applications, its better to know how to recover/remove the old credentials. For BIR Relief 2.2, it's quite easy.

  1. On the desktop, right click the shortcut for BIR Relief 2.2, then click Properties.
  2. On the shortcut tab, click "Open File Location". It will open the folder where the BIR Relief program is installed.
  3. There will be a "data" folder there, open it, then look for the following files :
    1. uspalog.cdx
    2. uspalog.dbf
  4. Delete those files (only those two!)
  5. When you open again the BIR relief shortcut, you can use any username/password you like (please remember it this time or write it somewhere.

Fitbit Charge HR Error : FBBluetoothErrorDomain error 18

posted Dec 3, 2017, 10:11 PM by Jose Marie Maquinay

My trusty Charge HR died over the weekend due to bad firmware update (I blame the Philippines poor internet connection services..), my iPhone wont see it, and keeps giving me a "FBBluetoothErrorDomain error 18". A little Googling showed me the way :

As we've mentioned the reason why you are seeing this halfway full bar on the display of the tracker is the firmware update that unfortunately got stuck! With that in mind, we would like you to try some steps that we believe might be helpful:

1) Open the BT settings (if the tracker appears unpair it from the list) and turn the BT off,
2) Open the Fitbit App - Click on Account -> Charge HR -> click on the trash bin (top right corner) or scroll down and click Unpair
3) Once removed from the App, restart both the tracker ((link: http://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186) help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US…) and the phone,
4) Turn the phone and the BT On and open the Fitbit App -> Account -> "+ Set up a new device" and follow the instructions on the screen to pair the Charge HR back. The update should start automatically. Please keep us posted!"

In my case, only unpaired the the Charge HR from the phone, and the update finally continued! Now it's counting again my mediocre steps. :D

Arduino SQL connection fix (kinda)

posted Nov 6, 2017, 2:39 AM by Jose Marie Maquinay

Been delving with Arduino + SQL connection using Chuck Bell's wonderful SQL connector library HERE.

It works, but not perfect. One of the issues that plagued many users is that it crashes the arduino after doing multiple SQL queries due to the Arduino's very limited memory space. After scouring the net and several experimentations, have found the conn.close(); command.

Normally, the SQL connector is like this :

MySQL_Connection conn((Client *)&client);

and close it using the conn.close(); command.

It adds several seconds to the code, but will enable you to have more than one query. Just remember to close the connection after each query. You can check my github for examples.

The SQL connector works well with SQL BUT it takes too long for my project, so later changed to PHP/SQL GET combo which is much, much faster than the Arduino SQL connector...

Pokemon Go is working again in the PH

posted Jul 10, 2016, 9:01 PM by Jomar Maquinay

After the long wait (1 week is long for rabid Pokemon fans), Pokemons (lower right corner) / PokeStops (upper middle side) has started to appear again in the PH. It was available before during the soft launch, but was quickly pulled due to the overwhelming popularity (aka, Niantic's [the game developer] servers was DDoSe'd to oblivion).

Let's see how long it will last, since supporting millions of players (if not more) will be a challenge to Niantic. We, the old time Ingress players have experienced it before (Ingress beta days was laggy / full of bugs), and for sure we will experience it again on Pokemon Go. But nevertheless, kudos to Niantic / Nintendo for bringing it worldwide!

Avast - My Favourite AntiVirus

Avast is currently my favorite free antivirus software for Windows. Its light and contains lots of features. The software updater really help to keep your applications to the latest version :

Other parts of it maybe annoying (especially the built in Web Browser) but overall, its a wonderful, free anti virus. As an IT admin, its the AV I usually install on friends AND/OR client's computers.

Legacy Yahoo Messenger will stop working by August 5, 2016

Goodbye YM

Yahoo Messenger one of the most popular chat clients in the Philippines, will experience some major change. The legacy client (the one usually installed on almost all computer shops) will stop working by August 5, 2016. The web version (LINK), the Android (LINK) / iOS (LINK) and Yahoo Mail version (LINK) will still continue to work.

I remember YM fondly during the computer shop managing days, as a source of pain (config issues, web cam issues, source of viruses) and happiness (common way of chatting with loved ones). I guess its Yahoo's way of forcing users to adapt the web and mobile OS versions, to boost popularity. Especially now that the competition is fierce (Hangouts,  FB Messenger, Viber, etc).

OLX restores much coveted Trader Rating

posted Jun 10, 2016, 6:41 PM by Yamato Takeru   [ updated Jun 10, 2016, 6:54 PM by Jomar Maquinay ]

Finally, after the endless request of its users, OLX has given in to its users's demand and re-implemented the Trader Rating, now called the Star Rating. Trading Rating is a very important feature of an Online Selling site, since it promotes buyers confidence and lessen the cases of online scams. OLX's Trader Rating is different than the one they had before. A few years ago, you just need to visit the seller's profile, put the Sulit (OLX's former name) link for the item you have bought, then set the rating (positive or negative) and press OK.

Now, you need to have the OLX app, talk to the seller through Chat, then rate him/her there after the transaction. The rating system is already live in the Android app, but the overall rating is not yet visible (as per FAQ page) :

My hunch is, OLX is starting to feel the slow drop in popularity and relevance that they needed to do something to boost popularity. Re-implementing the Trader Rating is a good step in the right direction.
